Before “Danny Boy,” there was “Londonderry Air”—a lovely old Irish melody rumored to have been inspired by harp-playing fairies. Though forever associated with the lyrics that were added much later, this air stands on its own as a beautiful instrumental. We’ll work on an arrangement that respects the tune’s sweet poignancy—but we’ll stop short of crying in our beer!
