Joe Steiner

Joe Steiner has been sharing his passion for traditional music for more than 45 years as a performer, teacher, jam leader, and radio host. Best known for his banjo and mountain dulcimer playing, Joe is equally at home on harmonica, guitar, bass and ukulele. His versatility, musicianship, and friendly teaching style have made him one of the Midwest's most respected and sought-after instructors, and his playing can be heard on several old-time and bluegrass recordings.

A favorite at festivals throughout the region, Joe enjoys helping musicians of all skill levels gain confidence, learn new techniques, and—most importantly—have fun making music. Whether leading a lively jam session or teaching players of all levels, he has a knack for making every class both educational and entertaining.

Joe has also devoted many years to introducing young people to traditional music by coordinating school programs, workshops, clubs, and performances. He has been a key leader in a nonprofit organization that has presented two bluegrass festivals each year for over 50 years. Behind the scenes, Joe helps keep everything running smoothly—and every so often, you'll find him stepping on stage to fill in with one of the bands.

For nearly 3 decades, Joe has hosted Blue Ridge Breakdown, the long-running bluegrass and old-time music program on WLFC 88.3, the University of Findlay's radio station. Tune in Mondays from 8:00–10:00 p.m. Eastern at pulse.findlay.edu/listen-live.

Joe currently performs with the Old-Time Duo alongside his wife, Chris Steiner, and with Buckeye RoadShow featuring Chris Steiner and Shari Wolf. Whether teaching, performing, or broadcasting, Joe's enthusiasm for traditional music continues to inspire musicians of every age.
